Solidworks file for the first version of the base for the mill.
24"x24" base
9" total height (4" work surface height, 5" pocket walls)
Made of epoxy granite (EG). Missing are the bolts and threaded inserts that will be set into the epoxy as it cures.
Work holding will be done by using any of the 1/4" threaded inserts that are on the base of the working surface; permanently cured into the EG's surface, flush.
Rails for the gantry will be attached to the sides of the base by 12ct 1/2" bolts that are cured into the EG.
A few pieces of rebar, bent to follow the base's contours, will be cured within the structure. This could very well be overkill in terms of additional support.
