1 | J. Simmons | * Define project
1 | J. Simmons | ** Per email from Liz Landis: ??One of our new exhibits needs a push button to play some prerecorded audio. I thought that this would be a great way to test out using Arduinos as low cost solutions in our exhibit spaces. I found this "solution":http://www.adafruit.com/blog/2009/07/07/waverp-an-arduino-library-for-recording-and-playing-wave-files-on-the-adafruit-wave-shield/ and wanted to see what you think. Originally, I was hoping just to extend the play button of an mp3 player to a button, but then realized that all of those are play/pause buttons. That won't work for us.??
1 | J. Simmons | * Discuss over all design
1 | J. Simmons | ** Joe - looks like the "Adafruit Wave Shield":http://www.adafruit.com/products/94 will do the job. It will be best if we just use that with a standard "Arduino Uno":http://arduino.cc/en/Main/ArduinoBoardUno
1 | J. Simmons | ** J - so we need an Arduino Uno, a Wave Shield Kit, a memory card sized to fit the audio file(s), and depending on how much of the exhibit is done the button, speaker(s), amplifier (if needed), and a case for the electronics
1 | J. Simmons | ** Joe - right
1 | J. Simmons | * Draft Bill of Materials
1 | J. Simmons | ** (1) "Arduino Uno":http://www.amazon.com/Arduino-A000046-UNO-board/dp/B004CG4CN4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318800653&sr=8-1 - $27
1 | J. Simmons | ** (1) "Adafruit Wave Shield Kit":http://www.adafruit.com/products/94 - $22 (currently out of stock 10-14 day backorder)
1 | J. Simmons | ** (1) SD Card (size TBD)
1 | J. Simmons | ** Speaker(s) (TBD)
1 | J. Simmons | ** (1) Button (TBD)
1 | J. Simmons | ** Parts for case (TBD)
1 | J. Simmons | ** Other hardware as required to hook things up (TBD)
1 | J. Simmons | * Path forward
1 | J. Simmons | ** J. or Joe need to arrange for a visit to the Museum to document the current design of the exhibit so we can work out the remaining details of the project
1 | J. Simmons | ** Need to discuss ordering an Arduino Uno and a Wave Shield Kit with Liz so we can go ahead and start experimenting with the key pieces of technology involved
