Shepard Test Stand

Hanging the engine mount assembly on music wire would be much cheaper than the drawer-slide and the response to small displacement is purely elastic. Music wire mounts would not be in the path of the exhaust, and would be only minimally affected by mild dust deposits. The only major issue with music wire is rust. Are stainless steel guitar-strings readily available?

In talking this over with Jaye, she came up with a solution that might work depending on the design of the drawer slide. Would it make a difference to flip the drawer slide so that the top section of the slide covers the bearings?

Thanks for the suggestion Jaye and Aaron. This solution was discussed, but would have required a change in two parts of the existing Shepard design. Not a big deal, but for version 1.1 J. made a shield out of heating/cooling ductwork patch that worked great today during tests at Club Cyberia. Since version 1.1 is just a simple incremental upgrade to version 1.0, and the fact that we're on a tight deadline to have version 1.1 ready for a partner organization, we wanted to keep the changes as simple as possible.

It's a great idea though.
