Week 1 Stand Up

  • J
    • Did - Started BIZ-05 (getting the PO Box) - paid for we are just waiting on a key, it is rented for the next 15 months
    • Will do - BIZ-02 (make new LLC, etc)
    • Blocked? - none
  • Bryan
    • Did - n/a
    • Will do - HW-13 (research BT module)
    • Blocked? - work and life issues may kill all available time (or not?)

Week 2 Stand Up - postponed due to travel/work/snow.

Week 2 Stand Up

  • J
    • Did - tired to close out BIZ-05 (PO Box), but clerical delays at UPS store + blizzard = not quite getting address or key; so did not get to start things requiring an address like BIZ-02 (the LLC)
    • Will do - start BIZ-02 (I hope)
    • Blocked? - waiting on PO Box
  • Bryan
    • Did - worked on HW-13 (research BT modules), not quite done; really liking the AdaFruit BlueFruit LE, currently out of stock (low'ish cost - $20, ease of use, integrated in the AdaFruit Leonardo clone), the BlueFruit Easy Key is super easy (but no controller profile yet) it is specifically set up for making hid devices, and pre-set to work with games (almost too limited); also looked at the BlueFruit LE UART (does have hid profiles and has required documentation); final option was one from blue radios (noted that the chips must have the desired hid profile pre-installed and and they are a little pricey); still reviewing sparkfun; notes that the determining hid compliance is challenging; having a very hard time finding ones that are BT 4 LE and have hid; also concerned about personal experience with BT and Windows
      • J - ditto to the second one being too limited and to wanting BT 4 LTE (highly preferable)
    • Will do - wrap up research and post results on wiki
    • Blocked? - no

Week 3 Stand Up

  • J
    • Did - Completed BIZ-05 (PO Box) and I started BIZ-02 (the LLC), registered myself and the LLC with DC govt, waiting to hear back before I can apply for permits and other required paperwork
    • Will do - there is an accounting thing I can do for BIZ-02 and then I will start getting organized to do HW-08 (test rig)
    • Blocked? - BIZ-02 waiting on DC govt to reply to LLC application
  • Bryan
    • Did - ready to do the write up for HW-13 (research BT modules), but all the modules researched lead to the conclusion that the adafruit modules are the best cost for BT 4 with HID
    • Will do - prepare the write up (with focus on the AdaFruit modules so we can down select)
    • Blocked? -

Note, J to order the BT module and and Arduino once it is selected and have it shipped to Bryan for HW-14.

Week 4 Stand Up

  • J
    • Did - continued working through incorporation paperwork for BIZ-02 (we are down to a couple of forms and then transfer funds and property), also note that BIZ-03 (bank account) is also kind of wrapped up in BIZ-02
    • Will do - starting into HW-08 (build the test rig)
    • Blocked? - lots of little delays around the paperwork with DC, but filling in the gaps with HW-08
  • Bryan
    • Did - completed HW-13 (select and document BT module)
    • Will do - need to start HW-14
    • Blocked? - need hardware
Required hardware
  • selected BT module
  • selected BT receiver for PC
  • Leonardo clone
  • breadboard

In prep for this week's stand up, here are a couple of pics of my work on the test rig for HW-08.

Week 5 Stand Up

Note: two weeks remain until the end of the sprint

  • J
    • Did - got parts ordered and delivered to Bryan for HW-14; started HW-08: got 3D printing and CAD tools set up to build test rig components and started making the first component (interface between stepper motor and magnets), see pictures above
    • Will do - Finish HW-08, determine list of hardware required for HW-10 beyond the test rig (rPi, case, wifi module, etc)
    • Blocked? - still no word from DC government on latest form for BIZ-02, will call this week if there is no response from them
  • Bryan
    • Did - waited on delivery of parts for HW-05; reviewed the pins on the boards to get ready for development
    • Will do - start implementing HW-05, looks generally fine, not anticipating any issues (not sure how will trigger key presses for demo, might just have it do a delay on start up before sending "hello world" (J likes this, recommend lighting LED during "typing")
    • Blocked? - none

Open discussion

  • J - want to discuss scheduling BIZ-06 (investment discussion)
    • Bryan - agreed
    • <looks like it will have to be next Sat right after the stand up, Bryan to send out calendar invite>

Headers attached to boards and mounted into breadboard.

Week 6 Stand Up (final week)

  • J
    • Did - completed HW-08 (test rig), posted pics, comments, and a video
    • Will do - BIZ-02 if I can (still waiting on DC govt)
    • Blocked? - BIZ-02 is blocked waiting on reply to a form that was sent in, will try to call the correct office next week to see what's up (but will be on travel, so not sure this will happen)
  • Bryan
    • Did - worked on HW-05: everything is bread boarded, powered up and proved the BT unit connected properly, have not started coding
    • Will do - program the Arduino (sample code looks nearly complete)
    • Blocked? -

Final Stand Up

  • J
    • Did - Researched RPi options for driving the completed test rig in later (next?) sprint; recommend the AdaFruit RPi 2 B starter kit for $100
    • Will do - n/a
    • Blocked? - Still waiting for one of the DC gov't forms (tax registration); will call them Fri to see where we stand
  • Bryan
    • Did - completed HW-14 (BT keyboard mode demo); had to fix a bug in the BT lib, may have another one to look into (related to lack of handshake pin? - need to do more research)
    • Will do - n/a
    • Blocked? - n/a

Sprint 1 Sprint Review

Claiming Done

  • BIZ-05 - Get PO Box
  • HW-13 - Select BT module
  • BIZ-06 - Hold initial investment discussion
  • HW-08 - Build Test Rig
  • HW-14 - Prototype BT keyboard connection

Not Done

  • BIZ-02 - Create new LLC (awaiting approval of a form and then need to submit final form before transferring property from old LLC and shutting it down)
  • BIZ-03 - Bank account for new LLC (awaiting final paperwork)
  • BIZ-04 - Get domain name (awaiting new bank account, and probably a credit card for the LLC)

Other Notes

  • Need to add a PBI to set up the bookkeeping
  • Need to add a PBI to implement current generation holoseat over BT
    • Bryan need to do some revision to the current BT connection and then thinking about wiring the hand built shield to the blue fruit to implement this plan

Sprint 1 Retrospective

What we did well?

  • Knocked out a lot of hardware stuff well
  • We planned a sprint that was well sized (the only not done PBIs were blocked by "the speed of government")
  • Kept things moving, this style of management is working for us
  • And the hardware work we are doing is getting done well

What didn't go well?

  • Way more paperwork to setup LLC in DC than OH, had no idea; still blocked on some of the paperwork
  • Could have done some of the PBIs a little faster (Bryan fought hardware more than expected and J had a hard time keeping up with pushing the paperwork sometimes)

What can we do better next time?

  • Make sure to fully process tutorials and documentation for new modules we are using
  • Be careful about taking on PBIs that play to our weaknesses, plan for longer times to complete when taking those PBIs
